Our first day of school went very smoothly! We had a busy day getting to know each other while learning procedures & expectations for the hallway, cafeteria, and playground. Also, we had fun exploring math tools, (this was their one and only time to play with the tools), and playing community building games.
Today the kiddos participated in their first group activity, Saving Fred. Who is Fred? He's a gummy worm that had to be rescued from a capsized boat, (plastic cup), and have a life preserver, (gummy Life Saver) put on him. Hopefully your child came home and told you all about it. Before beginning the activity, we compiled a list of what working together looks like a sounds like, which ended up being a very good list of how people should cooperate, solve problems, and work hard together. Every group was able to save Fred due to their outstanding cooperation in their groups! It was great to see the students talking to each other, listening, compromising, laughing, and helping each other out. There were lots of smiles and cheers as the groups saved Fred! I was so impressed with how they worked together.

I can't believe it's the end of the summer and time for back to school! Even though I enjoyed spending time with my family and going on fun outings with my children, I am excited to begin the new year. I am looking forward to meeting you and your child during Open House on August 21, 2014. So bring your child's supplies and head on up to room C216!
