Designing Parachutes to Investigate the Force of Gravity Working on Division with Problem Solving Testing our Parachutes! Investigating Forces & Motion with Slingshot Sedans Coming Up Week of Dec. 5-9Writing: We'll continue researching for our PBL. Students have been busy reading and recording notefacts. I've collected the first set of notefacts which will be for a grade. There are a few students that are having trouble finding information, so I'll be working with small groups to provide support to help them get caught up. Hopefully, we'll finish our research by the end of the week.
Reading: This week we will read more expository texts as we continue to learn about text structures, summarizing, cause/effect, and main idea with supporting details. We'll practice an expository passage in preparation for the upcoming reading assessment which we will take next week. Also, we'll record our thinking about PBL related articles. Math: We are finishing our division unit. Students will take a test on Wednesday which will cover division and fractions. Students should be able to apply strategies to solve division of twos, fours, fives, and tens facts, understand the rule for divisibility by two, identify representations for division, and connect multiplication facts to division. This test will also cover the fraction concepts from our fraction unit which includes fractions in a set, linear/length model of fractions, and area models. We have been reviewing fractions throughout the division unit, so everyone should be ready. Science: We'll wrap up forces and motion this week. Students should have an understanding of the terms below.. There are some interactive websites posted on Google classroom that we conducted today that you may want to have your child do at home as a review. There is also an interactive website about force and motion in Stemscopes they could complete again, (we did it already in class).
Social Studies: Our focus will be on map skills including using cardinal & intermediate directions; identifying & using map symbols; identifying different types of maps; using scale; and locating places on a map. Upcoming Events Monday, December 5: Spirit Night at Dairy Queen on 620 Friday, December 9: Spirit Assembly @ 7:45am Thursday, December 15: Third Grade Winter Party @ 1:45 |
