Noticing and Wondering in Math-Partial Products Area Model Multiplying 2-digit by 1-digit Multiplication Using Base Ten Blocks to Model Guest Speaker from Round Rock Honey STEM DAY Challenge...Build the highest structure with spaghetti and marshmallows. This session was hosted by McNeil High School Stem Another Stem Challenge...Build a structure that can support a tennis ball Coming Up Week of April 10-14It sounds like everything went well Thursday and Friday with the substitute. I really enjoyed the math conference I attended. Can you believe I spent 2 1/2 days learning and thinking about math? It's true-even during dinner. The great thing about being gone for professional development is I come back feeling refreshed and ready to try out some new ideas. The bad thing...getting behind. I am behind on grading but I'll get caught up in the next few days.
We will have a busy four day week coming up as we prepare for our Planet Protector assembly. See below for a glimpse of our week: Writing: This week we'll choose a personal narrative to revise and edit. Students will add a lead that grabs the reader, sensory images, dialogue, emotions/thinking, details that paint a picture, vivid verbs/specific nouns, and a satisfying ending that wraps up the piece. Reading: We'll have one more book club meeting this week before we start reading the last 3-4 chapters. We'll focus on character change, theme, and making inferences. Groups will discuss how their character is changing and make predictions about how the main character will resolve their conflict. They will also discuss the influence other characters and events have had on the main character. Math: This week, we'll continue to use strategies to solve problems involving 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. We'll wrap up the unit by learning the standard algorithm for 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. There isn't a district unit assessment for this unit alone-it will be combined with the next unit on place value. Science: Due to practicing for the assembly, we will only have a short time for science this week. We'll start learning about plant and animal adaptations. Upcoming Events Thursday April 13: Planet Protector presentation at 8:00 for the school and at 1:30 for parents Friday April 14: No school
