I can't believe it's already April and that we have a four day week! We'll be pressed for time this week as we try to review for Staar and keep up with our regular learning. It would be very helpful if you review the PAWS expectations with your child. The kiddos have been very talkative and playful the past few weeks. I need them to stay focused on learning, use perseverance, and follow our social contract. I know there is spring fever in the air, but it's especially important as we review for Staar that everyone work hard and do their best. I appreciate your support.
Here is an overview of our week: Science: We'll investigate habitats around the school and learn about the structures and functions of plants and animals in the desert. Reading: This week we'll continue to read traditional literature. Students will further develop their skill in writing a fiction summary, identifying theme, noticing sensory language, and identifying cause/effect. Also, students will be reading and discussing their books for book clubs which we started last week. Writing: Our focus this week will be on developing our characters and the conflict in our fiction stories. Math: Last week we finished up our unit on weight and capacity, and now we are moving on to data analysis which will also be a short unit. Students will generate a survey question, then gather data using a frequency table. They will use the data collected to create a bar graph online. Also, we'll learn how to use and read dot plots. Each day this week we will be reviewing for the math and reading STAAR tests, so science and writing may be a bit shorter than usual. Upcoming Events Friday, April 3rd- School Holiday Friday, April 10th- Spirit Assembly Friday, April 10th- Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast @ 7:30 Friday, April 10th- PTA Movie Night @ 6:00 Math & Reading STAAR tests for 3rd grade are on April 21st and April 23rd.
