I can't believe it is almost May! Where has the year gone? Staar testing is in two weeks, which means it is time for lots of review. The next two weeks we will focus on reviewing reading and math concepts. Some of our review will consist of completing passages and solving math story problems, but we'll also add in some games and other fun activities to make review a bit more interesting. See below for our plans for the week.
Writing: Last week we started PBL/earth poems, (which are amazing), that we will finish this week. We'll revise our poems and add graphics. We'll also work on some grammar skills this week. Part of our writing time will be used for reading review. Reading: STAAR review! Monday we will complete a practice Staar test so I can determine which concepts we need to focus on the most during our review time. Also, this will help build students' stamina. We'll spend time reviewing word meanings, using a dictionary entry, and using context clues. Students will play a context clues Scoot game and an inferencing Scoot game. Math: In addition to reviewing math concepts, we'll work on customary and metric units of weight and capacity. Science: We'll observe plants this week, including cacti and a flowering plant which we'll compare. One day we will take our learning outside to observe plants around our school. Students will look for adaptations the plants make to survive and notice their stuctures and functions.
