I can't believe this is our last full week of school. Although I am excited to have some much needed time to relax and get things done around my house, the end of the year is always bittersweet. This has been such a great class, and I really wish when we return in August we could all be together again. I am going to miss each and every one of them. It is so hard to spend the whole year getting to know the kids and then send them off at the end of the year. It may seem hard to believe, but they each hold a special place in my heart.
To make our last week together memorable, I want to do a few special things throughout the week. Tomorrow, we will make memory collages and start our 3rd grade memory books. We will finish the books throughout the week. Tuesday, we will have a flashlight read-in. Students may bring a small blanket, stuffed animal, and a small pillow if desired. They should bring a flashlight, (be sure to check the batteries). Of course, Wednesday our special event will be Field Day. Thursday will be game day. Students may bring a game to play with friends. I suggest sending in games that don't have a lot of pieces. Friday is our end of year party and yearbook signing. If your child has a yearbook, they can bring it on Friday. There will be pages in their memory book to use for autographs for kiddos without yearbooks. Here is a recap of the special events for the week: Monday-Photo memory collage Tuesday-Flashlight read in Wednesday-Field Day Thursday-Game day Friday-End of Year party and yearbook signing You may be wondering...is the whole week fun time? No, we will still be reading, working on math, and writing throughout the week. We'll continue with our book clubs in reading. Groups will meet to discuss the characters and plot. During math, we'll play some computation games that require strategy. We'll also use calculators and practice standard algorithms. During writing, we'll write a persuasive letter. Our science will be related to habitat loss as we wrap up our PBL.
