Writing: We'll finish our fiction drafts this week and work on revisions to improve the quality of our writing. Lessons will include sensory images, adding dialogue, adding character thoughts/feelings, and endings. Also, we'll work on combining sentences.
Reading: We'll continue to work on theme, summarizing, the importance of setting, and sensory images as we read a few more traditional tales. Also, we'll learn about myths and drama this week. In fact, we'll read a script of a myth in small groups and perform for the class! Math: This week, we'll wrap up our geometry unit after exploring prisms and pyramids and completing an interactive online activity to review polygons. Then, we'll begin our next unit on multiplication and division. During this unit we'll learn strategies for the last facts including build up and build down. Also, we'll learn a rule for zeros and ones facts. Here is are short videos about building down and building up. Building Down Strategy Building Up Strategy Science: Our focus this week will be on conservation of resources which includes making a compost bin, (we didn't get to this last week). As much as I would love to dig deeper into resources, we need to wrap up the unit. We'll take the unit assessment which will include soil formation and resources later in the week and then move on to our next unit about weather. Social Studies: More economics this week! We'll continue to learn about supply and demand, scarcity, and our free enterprise system.
