This week is International Children's week! Tomorrow morning is the kickoff assembly! Last week our class sponsor, Mrs. Huffor, taught us all about Germany. We learned some of the German language, some popular attractions, a little history, some interesting facts about their school life, and much more. Some students added to their research during her presentation. Speaking of research, we have completed our research on Germany and each student created a presentation page using Google drawings. The kiddos did a great job, especially since this was the first time many of them have used Goggle drawing. These will be displayed in the 3rd grade hallway-they look great! Here's what is happening in our class this week. Week of November 17-21 Reading: Students will read lots of nonfiction this week as we dive into our PBL research. I'll model strategies readers use to understand informational texts including activating prior knowledge, reading with a question in mind, and determining importance. Writing: Students will begin taking notefacts for our PBL research on recycling and plastic waste. We will read some books together to practice taking notes, and then on Thursday students will research with their inquiry group. Science: We didn't get to complete our investigation on decomposing trash on Friday since we didn't have enough soil, so we'll finish on Tuesday. Each group will create a mini landfill in a milk jug and bury a piece of trash. This will be an ongoing investigation since the students will need to frequently dig up their trash to look for evidence of decomposition. Also this week, we'll continue to learn about natural resources and why it's important to conserve. Math: More multiplication! Our focus will continue to be on the 2s, 4s, and 8s facts as well as strategies for solving multiplication problems. Last week we explored the relationship between the 2s, 4s, and 8s, and almost everyone noticed how you can use doubling to determine facts. Upcoming Events: Wednesday-Friday Scholastic Book Fair in the Library Thursday, November 20- International Children's Fair at 6:00 Friday, November 21- International Children's Fair rotations (students will get a "passport" and visit different countries represented around the school Highlights from Last Week
